EMC and Wireless Testing Laboratory in Germany

UL Solutions is expanding its electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and wireless testing capabilities in Europe with a new, state-of-the-art laboratory in Neu-Isenburg, Germany. Strategically located on UL Solutions’ existing campus near Frankfurt, the facility is designed to strengthen access to advanced testing and certification services for large, high-powered, connected and complex products across multiple industries.

As products become more connected, electrified, software-enabled and safety-critical, manufacturers need more than final-stage testing. They need earlier technical insight, local access to expertise and a coordinated path from the early stages of development through certification readiness.

A local Center of Excellence for EMC, wireless and product compliance

The new laboratory will be located on UL Solutions’ existing center of excellence in Neu-Isenburg, a campus that already hosts safety and performance testing facilities. This established technical environment helps manufacturers access integrated expertise across safety, performance, EMC, wireless and broader product compliance needs.

By bringing advanced EMC and wireless capabilities closer to customers in Germany and across Europe, UL Solutions can help manufacturers streamline logistics, collaborate more closely with technical experts and gain insights that support informed decision-making throughout the product life cycle.

Advanced EMC and wireless testing for large, complex products

The new facility is planned to offer a comprehensive range of testing and approval services for larger and more complex equipment. A key feature of the site will be a 10-meter EMC chamber capable of accommodating items up to 4 meters in length and weighing up to 5 metric tons. This capability is designed to support industries producing industrial systems, large appliances, sophisticated medical devices and automotive equipment.

In addition to EMC testing, the facility will provide wireless testing services across technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mobile and cellular networks, GPS and radio frequency identification (RFID).

Helping manufacturers identify risks earlier

Through the new laboratory, UL Solutions will support precompliance testing, technical reviews and certification planning for components, products and complete systems. Laboratory experts will help manufacturers identify potential issues earlier, evaluate EMC and wireless performance in real-world product contexts and connect findings to safety, functional safety, cybersecurity and global market access considerations.

For large strategic accounts, this can provide complementary capacity, independent technical expertise and a more coordinated approach to planning evidence across markets. For medium-sized and smaller companies, it can provide practical guidance, clearer priorities and more predictable project execution.

Industries and applications supported

The new EMC and wireless laboratory is designed to support a broad range of commercial and industrial products, including:

  • Industrial equipment and controls
  • Energy and power systems
  • Major and small household appliances
  • HVAC/R systems
  • Lighting products
  • Medical devices
  • Laboratory equipment
  • Multimedia technologies
  • Automotive components

The laboratory's scope will cover product-specific and generic EMC compliance, immunity and emissions testing. This includes testing to key international EMC and wireless standards and regulatory requirements, including those developed by the International Special Committee on Radio Interference (CISPR), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO), as well as European Norm (EN) standards and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements.

Supporting innovation, compliance and sustainable growth

The facility is positioned to provide targeted testing services that support energy transition technologies, connected data ecosystems and next-generation mobility. At the same time, it will help manufacturers keep pace with evolving regulatory requirements and navigate compliance with greater confidence.

Projected to be operational by spring 2027, the laboratory is being designed in alignment with UL Solutions’ sustainability principles. The site is expected to incorporate renewable energy sources, rooftop solar panels, advanced building controls and a soak-away rainwater system that returns water directly to the soil.

The building is planned to meet the latest German thermal insulation regulations to help maximize energy efficiency while minimizing its carbon footprint. In addition to advanced testing laboratories, the facility will accommodate commercial and technical teams to foster closer collaboration and customer support.

Part of UL Solutions’ global EMC and wireless network

Once operational, the Neu-Isenburg laboratory will become part of UL Solutions’ global network of EMC and wireless facilities across Asia, Europe, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States. Together, these laboratories help manufacturers address compliance challenges early, mitigate risk and bring safer products to global markets.

For European customers, the new German laboratory represents more than expanded testing capacity. It is a long-term resource for innovation, compliance planning and sustainable growth.
