Withdrawal dates for legacy Standards published before UL 60065 Seventh Edition
Many of the existing standards are being withdrawn (phased out) in favor of ANSI/UL 60065, the Standard for Audio, Video and Similar Electronic Apparatus (Seventh Edition). ANSI/UL 60065 is an IEC based Standard which makes it desirable for the global market In fact, since ANSI/UL 60065 contains the United States National Differences to IEC 60065:2001 + Amendment 1:2005 and UL is a member of the IECEE CB Scheme, we can offer global reach with a single product investigation.
As you may recall, following the publication of ANSI/UL 60065 Seventh Edition, UL established a date of January 1, 2010 at which time all previous/legacy standards that were published prior to ANSI/UL 60065 would be withdrawn. In addition, the product certification(s) associated with the previous/legacy standards would be withdrawn unless the product was evaluated to ANSI/UL 60065 Seventh Edition.
The January 1, 2010 date is being postponed and extended as follows:
(1) New product certifications will be required to be based upon ANSI/UL 60065 Seventh Edition effective immediately, unless a request in writing is provided for the product to be evaluated to one of the other, previous/legacy standards - existing certifications and submissions of alternate constructions and revisions to existing certifications to previous/legacy standards may continue until May 1, 2012.
(2) Effective May 1, 2012 all product certifications (both UL and cUL) will be required to be based upon ANSI/UL 60065 Seventh Edition. Any existing previous/legacy standard-based certification where there is a desire to continue certification will need to be re-certified using the Seventh Edition of the standard before this date.
