On June 26, the state of Rhode Island enacted HB 7356 - Consumer PFAS Ban Act of 2024. The Act aims to phase out the uses of PFAS in covered products beginning January 1, 2025.
The phase-in ban of PFAS shall be implemented as follows:
- January 1, 2025 (Prohibition for use in the state any class B firefighting foam that contains intentionally added PFAS)
- January 1, 2027 (Prohibition for sale in the state the following products if they contain intentionally added PFAS)
- Artificial turfs
- Carpets and rugs
- Cookware
- Fabric treatments
- Juvenile products
- Ski wax
- Textile articles
- January 1, 2029 (Prohibition for sale in the state outdoor apparel for severe wet conditions if they contain intentionally added PFAS, unless declared with the statement "Made with PFAS chemicals”)
