Indonesian Market Access for Televisions

Learn about SNI and SKEM certification requirements for bringing televisions to the Indonesian market and how UL Solutions can help.

Two people watching TV

To bring television (TV) products to market in Indonesia, there are two required product certifications: the Indonesian National Standard   (SNI) and the Minimum Energy Performance Standard (SKEM) product certification.   Please also note that if a TV has any wireless feature(s), then it may be subject to additional approval requirements.

SNI standards are electrical safety standards that are mandatory in Indonesia for various products. As a Type 5 certification scheme, SNI certification requires a mandatory factory inspection and in-country testing to the applicable SNI standards. The applicable SNI standard for TVs is SNI 04-6253-2003. According to the Regulation of Ministry of Industry (MoI) No. 15 of 2018, TVs with screen sizes up to 42 inches (diagonal length), including cathode-ray tube (CRT) TVs, are in scope of the mandatory SNI certification. After a Ministry of Industry (MoI)-designated testing and certification body evaluates a TV to the standard and certification requirements have been met, SNI certification for TVs is valid for four years.

SKEM [or MEPS] energy-efficiency regulations limit the maximum amount of energy that can be consumed by various products. These regulations do not require factory inspection but do require in-country testing to relevant standards. The applicable standard for TVs is IEC 62087-3-2023. Once a Ministry of Energy (MoE)-designated testing and certification body determines that certification requirements have been met, certification is valid for four years.

Per Decree of Ministry of Energy No. 162.K/EK.06/DJE/2023, liquid crystal display (LCD) and light-emitting diode (LED) TVs with screen sizes up to 55 inches (diagonal) fall under the scope of SKEM [MEPS]. TVs with CRT, plasma, organic light-emitting diode (OLED), mini-LED, quantum light-emitting diode (QLED), quantum nano-emitting diode (QNED) and 4K resolution technology are not in the scope of the regulation.

PT UL International Indonesia  is a designated testing and certification body under the following provisions:

  • Decree of Ministry of Industry No. 4057 of 2023 (for SNI testing and certification body).
  • Decree of Ministry of Energy No. 99.K/EK.07/DJE/2024 (for SKEM testing body).
  • Decree of Ministry of Energy No. 103.K/EK.07/DJE/2024 (for SKEM certification body).

By offering both SNI and SKEM [MEPS] testing and certification, UL Solutions can help TV manufacturers streamline compliance efforts to access the Indonesian market. Contact us to learn more about how we can help you navigate global market access for your TVs.
