In April 2024, the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia (MME - Colombia) published updated requirements for the new Technical Regulation for Electrical Installations (RETIE) with impactful changes to adapt it to national and international standards as well as the latest market technologies, such as wind turbines, PV modules and inverters, and electric vehicle (EV) battery chargers. The main objectives are increasing the safety, reliability and efficiency of electrical installations throughout Colombia.

Updates to new RETIE

The new RETIE establishes the minimum requirements and applicable tests for equipment and products in order to promote their proper use by setting the minimum parameters of quality, performance and safety as well as the conformity assessment procedure.

It will require building companies to provide the end users with an operation and maintenance (O&M) manual for the facility. This manual must include specific guidelines for maintenance activities, equipment replacement, operating protocols, safety precautions and prevention, among others.

The Resolution 40117 of 2024 can be accessed here.

Only certificates issued by accredited certification bodies will be accepted under the new RETIE.

UL Solutions is recognized by the National Accreditation Body of Colombia (ONAC) as a Product Certification Body for RETIE 2024. We offer certification for products that meet the updated requirements of the new RETIE.
