Processes need to be applied in practice. Although execution can be fairly simple for typical linear business processes, engineering processes present unique challenges and complexities, as they are executed across a chain of product lifecycle management (PLM), application lifecycle management (ALM), document management and other engineering tools.
Result-oriented process execution
Typical engineering processes are repeatedly executed in iterations to incrementally produce work products until the desired level of completeness and quality is achieved. To support users executing those processes, Stages provides direct access to work products stored in Microsoft SharePoint, Apache® Subversion® (SVN), PTC Codebeamer and PTC Integrity Lifecycle Manager. Engineers can directly access documents, regardless of where they are physically stored. Project managers can efficiently assess work product statuses across multiple storage repositories.
Task-oriented process execution
In contrast to Business Process Modeling and Notation (BPMN) and similar modeling techniques, the process logic in Stages can be separately modeled from task execution and platform details. The same standard process can be used in different execution environments, which greatly streamlines demonstration of standard compliance.
Processes modeled in Stages can orchestrate execution across Atlassian Jira or IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (formerly known as Rational Team Concert (RTC) or Jazz). Users can start process workflows directly from Stages. As most execution environments are customized, the integrations can also be scripted for maximum flexibility.
