With a passion for the National Electrical Code and International Building Code, Chris brings decades of experience to his role as regulatory services manager. He is focused on advancing public safety through thought leadership, building and electrical code development activities and strategic engagement with code authorities.
Career and education
Before coming to UL Solutions, Chris worked as a master electrician and chief building official for 27 years. He began his career as a building inspector and plans examiner in Logan City, Utah, where he holds a Master Electrician's license. He is a graduate of the electrical apprenticeship program of Bridgerland Applied Technical College, and also served as an instructor in that program for more than 18 years. Chris credits his education and career experience with providing him with the background he needs to engage with key stakeholders such as code officials and electricians in his daily job.
Involvement in industry associations
Chris holds 18 ICC Certifications for different inspection areas. He was a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) National Electrical Code (NEC) Code Making Panel (CMP) 10 for the 2014 and 2017 cycles representing the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI). He has served as chairperson for the Uniform Building Codes Commission Electrical Advisory Committee for the State of Utah and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Northwest Section of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors.
Awards and achievements
Chris is a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff of The William Henry Merrill Society (WHMS). Established in 2006, the WHMS formally recognizes UL Solutions employees who have made significant and sustained contributions to the fulfillment of UL Solutions’ public safety mission for a safer, more secure and more sustainable today and tomorrow.
Chris has shared his expertise as an author of articles published on Code Authorities on UL.com and as a presenter of numerous webinars about building code topics and new and innovative technologies. He has spoken at the ICC and IAEI conferences on many different topics, primarily electrical and building code related.
