Energy transition and the built environment
Dwayne has been key in advancing energy-efficient and sustainable technologies in the built environment by verifying that these products are balanced with the necessary fire protection attributes. He and his team of fire protection experts have contributed to the development of robust fire test criteria to enable the use of safer solar technologies on roofs. Dwayne focuses on the fire performance of exterior wall assemblies and the use of more sustainable, more energy-efficient designs in these applications. He also leads fire testing of interior building materials and air ducts, helping these industries fulfill the demand for safer and more sustainable construction and energy efficiency. Dwayne has shared his expertise in articles and presentations around the world.
Standards development
From developing the first set of UL safety and performance requirements for duct tape used to seal air ducts to leading efforts with the International Fire Safety Standards Coalition, as well as many other contributions, Dwayne has deep experience in standards development. He participates heavily as a voting member and leader in technical committees within UL Standards & Engagement, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
