Having contributed widely to standards and program development at UL Solutions, Adrian Wain applies an acquired science-based and pragmatic approach to enhancing ESG transparency for customers. While ESG reporting has traditionally been considered “non-financial,” he notes that it is becoming increasingly linked with financial reporting. This shift raises business stakeholder expectations for robust ESG information, creating a space where environmental care meets corporate care.
Carbon transparency
Across the broad spectrum of ESG issues for which companies need to provide transparency, Adrian puts his deep knowledge of standards and his scientific expertise to work primarily in the area of carbon measurement, opening companies’ eyes to their role in climate change – and how climate change is affecting them. To enable this, Adrian has led the development of a range of products and services at UL Solutions, from supplier carbon accounting technology to organizational carbon emissions verification. He is a leader in helping companies meet the demand to conduct business more responsibly.
Decarbonization strategy
Once a company knows its impact on the environment, what are the next steps? Adrian is increasingly applying his expertise to educate companies on the best “levers and mechanisms” to improve their ESG-reported performance, primarily in the area of decarbonization. This can take the form of “quick wins” like renewable energy purchasing and electrification of fossil fuel processes or more complex overhauls of logistics, supply chain optimization and business model redesign.
“We work in a very dynamic space; new standards, new technologies, new best practices are being implemented at a rapid rate. We invest significant resources into solution engineering so that our customers receive up-to-date and future proof solutions to ESG reporting challenges.” – Adrian Wain
