Joel Ritschel’s extensive knowledge of indoor environments related to the commercial, industrial, manufacturing, educational and hospitality building sectors informs his leadership of the Healthy Buildings business unit. He brings over 18 years of experience in sustainability, energy auditing, construction building systems commissioning, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and green buildings programs. Joel’s experience includes an abundance of on-site fieldwork, design and construction document preparation, and subcontractor coordination. He is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
Safe, Smart and Sustainable Buildings
As director of Healthy Buildings, Joel supervises a portfolio of programs and guidance focused on the complex needs of modern buildings, their owners and occupants. The work provides asset owners and managers with expertise in indoor environmental quality (IEQ), environmental, social and governance (ESG) and sustainability. These offerings support occupant health and wellness, green building certification, ESG data management and verification, net-zero energy, and decarbonization.
Joel assists customers with jurisdiction code compliance through green building program analysis, documentation, and achievement of credits. His team is skilled in helping customers attain the most technical of credits to reach the highest possible certification level.
Energy transition
Among his many accreditations, Joel is a Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) and Renewable Energy Professional (REP) with a background in performing commercial energy audits, new construction commissioning and existing building retro and recommissioning. Joel has deep experience overseeing capital-expenditure mechanical, electrical and plumbing (CapEx MEP) upgrades of commercial, institutional and multifamily residential buildings, which helps building owners prepare for energy transition. He guides his team to assist building owners and managers with energy reduction plans through on-site study, energy analysis, measurement and verification.
