Since joining UL Solutions in 2008, Simin Zhou has become a recognized leader in sustainability innovation. As the founder and former director of UL Ventures, Simin possesses a deep understanding of business development and environmental impact management across various industries. Now responsible for the strategy and development of UL Solutions' software and advisory portfolio, Simin’s role centers on helping customers achieve measurable sustainability progress. She works closely with customers to strategize and implement offerings that move them toward their goals. She also collaborates with internal teams to help ensure the tools and services they create effectively serve evolving customer needs.
Pioneering sustainability compliance and innovation strategies
At the cutting edge of environmental, social and governance (ESG) regulation compliance, Simin and her team strategically prepare UL Solutions customers to meet the latest ESG-related directives and parallel enterprise-wide demands. They are currently guiding businesses through the complexities of the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), which significantly expand the scope of ESG requirements. Her team is also proactively addressing emerging challenges, such as the impact of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) regulations on supply chains and supporting companies in scaling up renewable energy projects to meet decarbonization objectives.
Developing UL Solutions software and advisory services
Simin uses a forward-thinking approach to shape UL Solution's software and advisory services, drawing on her years of expertise and involvement with two of The Conference Board’s Executive Committees to stay attuned to the changing needs of diverse industries. Her work facilitates UL Solutions’ ability to equip businesses with actionable insights, resources and software applications that reduce operational challenges around sustainability and create a landscape where companies can integrate these practices seamlessly. At the same time, she seeks to build communities of industry leaders who collaborate to simplify the path to compliance and long-term viability.
