Brazil Amends Positive List of Monomers for Plastic Packaging and Equipment in Contact with Food

On Feb. 10, 2025, Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) implemented the positive list of monomers, polymers and other initiating substances authorized for the preparation of plastic packaging and equipment in contact with food (ANVISA/RDC Resolution No. 961 OF 02/06/2025).

The revisions are as follows:

Annex I: List of Monomers and Other Authorized Initiating Substances

  • Inclusion of Tetramethyl Bisphenol F Diglycidyl Ether (TMBPF-DGE) = reaction product of tetramethyl bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)methane and epichlorohydrin

Annex II: List of Authorized Polymers

  • Inclusion of Polyamide-imide 2 (PAI-2) = poly-N-(4,4'- diphenylmethane trimelitamide imide), produced by the reaction of 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane with benzoyl chloride-3,4-dicarboxylic anhydride
