On Dec. 30, 2024, the Ministry of Environment in Chile published an official list of hazardous substances for industrial use notified in 2024, in accordance with the provisions of Supreme Decree No. 57, of 2019, under Article 295.

As defined under Resolution No. 7595 of Dec. 17, 2024, this list is available for free access on the following institutional portal of the Chilean Ministry of the Environment: https://plataformasqi.mma.gob.cl/

This list of substances in Resolution No. 7595/2024 differs from the list of substances in Resolution No. 777/2021, as the latter addresses the classes and hazard categories of substances to be used as further reference to classify products in Chile.

New substances

The substances manufactured or imported that are not on the official list will be considered "new substances." This implies that those substances, in quantities equal to or above one metric tonne per year must be notified prior to their commercialization, import or manufacture.

Timeline

Take note that the next notification deadline is for substances other than industrial use when above the threshold limit mentioned above. This notification process should be done through the digital portal called Ventanilla Única (single window), starting as of Feb. 9, 2025 until Aug. 30, 2025.

UL’s ChemADVISOR™ Regulatory Database is being updated to reflect the changes and will be available for the Q2025-2 (April 2025).

Recommended action items

Review the chemical substances and amounts being used and/or handled within the Chilean market and verify the following:

  • Any hazardous substances for industrial use that are not included in this list and would therefore be considered “new.”
  • Any hazardous substances for non-industrial use will require notification by Aug. 30, 2025.
