MARIETTA, Ga., August 9, 2012—Leading product emissions and chemical content testing provider UL ECO-INSTITUT, part of UL Environment, announced today that it is approved as a pollutant and emission testing laboratory by the Association of Environmentally Friendly Carpets e. V. (GUT). For more than 20 years, GUT has been considered a leading carpet label in Europe and it is an integral part of the European product information system for textile floor coverings: PRODIS.
“We are delighted to offer testing to carpet manufacturers that meets all of the relevant European requirements on pollutants and emissions,” says Dr. Frank Kuebart, founder and CEO of UL ECO-INSTITUT. “In addition to ‘GUT,’ the Blue Angel, M1 and legal requirements are those that are currently required in Germany and France.”
UL ECO-INSTITUT, located in Cologne, Germany, is an approved testing, inspection and certification body for CE marking and for the national technical approvals by the German Institute for Structural Engineering (DIBt).
GUT’s testing requirements for certification are divided into three segments: a carpet pollutant test for heavy metals, plasticisers, biocides, pesticides and Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs); a stringent emission test (according to ISO 16000) for carcinogens, Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC), Semi Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOC), formaldehydes and other aldehydes, among others; and a sensory odour test for the floor covering.
