Northbrook, Ill. September 27, 2019—UL Healthcare and Life Sciences, a division of UL providing healthcare services including pre-clinical testing for medical devices and equipment, has opened a new state-of-the-art laboratory and testing facility for medical devices in the Bavarian town of Neu-Ulm, Germany.
The new laboratory will enable UL Healthcare and Life Sciences’ pre-clinical medical device testing unit to expand its capacity as well as centralize and enhance services including biocompatibility, microbiology, cleaning validation and packaging testing. The unit’s chemistry, mechanics and biology testing teams as well as quality assurance teams now operate out of the new facility.
The Neu-Ulm laboratory, located approximately 60 miles from Stuttgart, provides 2,100 square feet of laboratory space along with office and meeting areas distributed over three floors. UL’s ISO 17025 accreditation body, the Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DakkS), the Zentralstelle der Länder für Gesundheitsschutz bei Arzneimitteln und Medizinprodukten (ZLG) and the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety, which authorizes Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) certification, have successfully audited and inspected the new laboratories.
“As more and more medical device manufacturers pursue product testing to both satisfy regulators and substantiate safety and performance claims, we expanded our laboratory capacity in order to meet growing industry demand,” said Marcus Corzilius, director of non-clinical testing, UL Healthcare and Life Sciences. “Now operating out of a world-class laboratory embedded in one of the growing European technology centers, we continue to provide independent testing to healthcare safety to an even broader customer base.”
