THE NETHERLANDS, July 22, 2014 – UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global safety science leader, announced today it is an accredited auditor for the EuCertPlast Scheme. EuCertPlast is a project for establishing European certification for post-consumer plastics recyclers.
The EuCertPlast organization has defined requirements based on the European Standard EN 15343:2007 and aims to encourage recycling of plastics using environmentally friendly practices. The focus is on the process for traceability, conformity assessment and recycled content. Recyclers interested in becoming certified by EuCertPlast must be audited by an accredited EuCertPlast auditor.
UL’s EuCertPlast accredited auditors utilize the best available practices to assess the process used in the customer’s facility. This process also suggests changes to the recycling process to aid in customer conformity. EuCertPlast requirements provide audits for initial certification and annual monitoring/renewal.
“Offering EuCertPlast audits was a natural step for UL. This service provides our customers with the opportunity to use a common framework to encourage plastics recyclers to utilize environmentally friendly practices,” Todd Denison, Vice President and General Manager of the Performance Materials Division said. “EuCertPlast audits are just one of many globally relevant services we offer recycled plastics manufacturers. The audits complement our existing recycled plastics programs such as Recycled Plastic Safety Certification for North American Market Access and Environmental Claim Validation.”
Companies that meet the standards will receive a EuCertPlast Certificate of Compliance from UL valid for the duration of one year per the EuCertPlast guidelines.
