The Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme for commercial washer and commercial dishwashers
Started in 2009, the Mandatory Water Efficiency Labeling Scheme (WELS) is a product certification scheme by the Public Utilities Board (PUB). Under this scheme, products confirmed to be water efficient can be classified as water efficient, and leverage this endorsement for advertisement, display, sale and supply in the local market.
Earlier this year, PUB Singapore had announced that the Mandatory Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme (MWELS) will be extended to include commercial washer extractors, commercial dishwashers and high-pressure cleaning washer, effective 1st Jan 2022.
Suppliers, manufacturers and distributors shall ensure that the three types of commercial equipment listed in the Table below are supported with the relevant test reports and that the models are registered under MWELS before they are offered, displayed or advertised for sale or supply in Singapore.
Equipment | Test method or standard | Minimum water efficiency requirement |
Commercial Washer Extractor, both front and top load type | BS EN 17116-4:2019 (it is under clarification with PUB whether a test report evaluated to EN 17116-4:2019 equivalent can be accepted) | ≤ 8.0 L / kg |
Commercial dishwasher, both undercounter and hood type | IEC 63136:2019 | ≤ 2.4 L / rack |
High pressure washer for general cleaning purposes | No standards but a specific set of requirements outline in Appendix* | ≤ 11.0 L / min |
