In mid-November 2023, UL Solutions, a global expert in the field of safety science, collaborated with Luxshare-ICT and Artilux to host the USB AOC Technology and Application Seminar in Beitou, Taipei. The seminar featured experts from various fields and provided comprehensive insights into the latest developments in research, production and testing for USB-C AOC.
The seminar, co-sponsored by business partners such as Tri-lights Optical and Speed Tech, attracted nearly 60 industry professionals.
With constant development of USB transmission interfaces comes wider application and acceptance in the market. To extend the transmission distance of USB interfaces, the industry has introduced AOC technology to further expand the application range of USB. As a result, various stakeholders — including brands, installers, retailers and end users — have had to pay attention to data transmission reliability demonstrated by USB cables adopting AOC technology.
At the beginning of this seminar, Jonathan Chen, vice president and general manager of UL Solutions in Taiwan, delivered the opening speech and clearly stated the purpose of the event:
"The partnership of UL Solutions, Luxshare and Artilux will create synergy to enhance global standards and technology in the field of USB-C AOC. We look forward to bringing a safer and more reliable USB-C AOC solution to the industry through this collaboration.”
To help participants further understand why standardization will profoundly influence the technological development of the USB interface, the seminar began by approaching the topic from a market perspective. Stone Lin, director of interconnect technology development at Luxshare-ICT, first talked about the current status and future trends of the AOC market. He also analyzed the manufacturing of USB cables and related issues. “Luxshare-ICT provides comprehensive interconnect solutions for customers and industry partners in the consumer electronics sector. Through collaboration with UL Solutions and Artilux, we can demonstrate our competitive advantages in the field of USB-C AOC and provide customers with excellent products and services,” he said.
Jeff Liang, deputy general manager of product development at Artilux, continued with the technical aspects, focusing on crucial IC design. “We are delighted to be involved in this tripartite collaborative event across different domains. By integrating Artilux’s profound technical expertise into USB-C AOC products, we have jointly showcased a leading solution in the industry. We believe this will contribute to driving and meeting the future market demands for high-speed and long-distance transmission in consumer products,” he said.
The seminar concluded with a focus on testing and certification. Wayne Yeh, certification audit engineer at UL Solutions, discussed the testing process based on the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) specifications to further highlight the latest USB Type-C™ authentication technology and verification solutions.
The seminar combined UL Solutions’ expertise in certification testing, Luxshare-ICT’s extensive manufacturing experience and Artilux’s innovative technology in optical fiber transmission chips. The active participation and enthusiastic sharing with other industry professionals at the event provided a diverse perspective on the USB-C AOC industry.
