The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) announced the recipients of its 2023 Leadership and Service Awards. The recipients have earned recognition for their significant contributions toward national and international standardization activities, as well as an ongoing commitment to their industry, the nation and the enhancement of the global voluntary consensus standards system.
UL Solutions’ Steven Margis, conformity assessment director, will receive the Elihu Thomson Electrotechnology Medal. This achievement honors an individual who has contributed in an exceptional, dedicated way to the field of electrotechnology standardization, conformity assessment and related activities at the national and international levels. Previously, Margis received the Gerald H. Ritterbusch Conformity Assessment Medal from ANSI in 2018.
Throughout his more than 30-year career, Margis has influenced and contributed prolifically in his field via his participation and leadership in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) committee for conformity assessment (CASCO), United States National Committee (USNC) and TIC Council; as a subject matter expert for international governmental officials, regulators and scheme owners; and as a speaker on the subject of conformity assessment at global forums.
Putting his work into action, Margis serves internationally as the International Electrotechnical Commission for Electrical Equipment (IECEE) chair and domestically as USNC/IECEE vice chair. He also recently served as the USNC Host Planning Committee chair for the 2022 IEC General Meeting held in San Francisco.
“I am proud to be able to represent UL Solutions in not only the domestic but also the international conformity assessment community with the collective expertise of UL Solutions to drive, inspire and influence the continued evolution and advancement of the global conformity assessment landscape,” Margis said as he shared the news of this award with colleagues.
Recipients of the awards will be honored at the ANSI Leadership and Service Awards Ceremony held in conjunction with World Standards Week on Oct. 11, 2023, in Washington, DC.
