NORTHBROOK, Ill. — April 15, 2025 — The following is a notification from UL Solutions that the communications cable bearing the serial numbers identified below may pose a potential fire hazard. The communications cable does not meet the riser flame test requirements of UL 1666, Standard Test for Flame Propagation Height of Electrical and Optical-Fiber Cables Installed Vertically in Shafts.
Name of Product: BV-Tech CAT5 Riser (CMR) Solid Copper Ethernet Cable 1000FT
Remedy: UL Solutions recommends that the product be removed from service and discarded.
Identification on the Box: The cable box bears the following:
CAT5e CMR
UTP ETHERNET CABLE
Category Cat. 350Mhz
TYPE: 1000 FT CMR RISER CABLE BLACK
Additionally, the box bears a gold holographic UL label, the words “COMMUNICATIONS CABLE” and a serial number on the UL label. Only those cable boxes with UL serial numbers ranging from AN35568255 to AN35568355 are affected by this notice (100 units).
Location: The products were sold in North America.
