USA - Vermont Signs S.25 Relating to Regulating Consumer Products Containing PFAS Substances or Other Chemicals

The Governor of Vermont signed S.25 (Act 131) which revises Senate Bill 20: An act relating to restrictions on perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other chemicals of concern in consumer products. This Act will be effective in phases starting July 1, 2024. Repeals existing regulation on January 1, 2026. Learn more.

The Governor of Vermont signed S.25 (Act 131) which revises Senate Bill 20: An act relating to restrictions on perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other chemicals of concern in consumer products. This Act will be effective in phases starting July 1, 2024. Repeals existing regulation on January 1, 2026.

This Act prohibits a manufacturer from selling, offering for sale, distributing for sale, or distributing for use in this State products containing certain chemicals or chemical classes, including PFAS. The following products are covered by this Act:

  • Aftermarket stain and water-resistant treatments
  • Artificial turf
  • Cookware
  • Incontinency protection
  • Juvenile products
  • Ski Wax
  • Residential rugs and carpets
  • Textiles and textile articles
  • Class B firefighting foam
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Food packaging
