UL Demko is accredited as a Notified Body for Oman’s new certification scheme.
UL Solutions can now perform safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing in accredited laboratories and issue Oman Type Examination Certificates, needed as prerequisites for market access to Oman. The new Conformity Assessment Regulation (published with Ministerial Resolution No. 190/2021) has been implemented on June 5, 2022.
Oman recently implemented safety and EMC requirements, including testing and certification. An online database of the Omani authority, the Directorate general for Standards and Metrology (DGSM) is under development, once launched certified products will need to be registered here. The new scheme currently applies to washing machines with a capacity of 11 to 25 kg, dishwashers and vacuum cleaners.
First stage of regulated products:
- Dishwashing machines for household use – Reference standard IEC 60335-2-5, reference HS code 84221100
- Washing machines exceeding 10 kg and up to 25 kg – Reference standard IEC 60335-2-7, reference HS code 84502000
- Vacuum cleaners with a self-contained electric motor – Reference standard IEC 60335-2-2, reference HS codes 85081910, 85081920, 85081990
The new requirements are based on the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances BD-142004-01, including safety and EMC provisions.
The conformity assessment procedure is a type of examination involving a Notified Body appointed by local authorities.
The manufacturer can either submit the application directly or appoint a local authorized representative.
As a result of the verification, the manufacturer will receive an Oman Type Examination Certificate valid for one year, and the product will be registered on the DGSM online database of approved products.

The DGSM and the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) have appointed UL Demko as a Notified Body that can perform Omani certifications as well as issue Gulf Type Examination Certificates and Oman Energy Labels required for other product categories.
UL Solutions can also perform safety and EMC testing in accredited laboratories in different locations, that can be used as base for the Omani certification.
