Automotive SPICE® v4.0 at a Glance

Learn about the changes introduced in Automotive SPICE® v4.0 and how they may impact your work.

 

Automotive SPICE® v4.0 (also called ASPICE 4.0) was published in December 2023. This version introduces several changes. 

Automotive SPICE® v4.0 compared to Automotive SPICE® v3.1

Automotive SPICE® v4.0’s main changes, as compared with the previous version, Automotive SPICE® v3.1, include:

  • Structural changes.
  • Changes to generic practices (GPs).
  • A new training program.
ASPICE model

Structural changes in Automotive SPICE® v4.0

Automotive SPICE® v4.0 takes an important step toward mapping the entire mechatronic development process. This version’s structural changes center around:

  • The inclusion of Machine Learning Engineering (MLE) processes.
  • The inclusion of Hardware (HWE) processes.
  • A new validation process.
  • A new basic scope for Automotive SPICE® assessments.

Changes to Automotive SPICE® generic practices

  • The need for a strategy definition has been added to GP 2.1.1.
  • The terminology was changed to align with other standards.

New training scheme of assessors

intacs® introduced a new assessor training scheme at nearly the same time as the release of Automotive SPICE® v4.0. There is an ASPICE® v4.0 upgrade course mandatory for all assessors who will lead an assessment using ASPICE PAM 4.0 and for the intacs®-certified instructors who will teach the intacs® courses after Oct. 1, 2024. This training is also required for all assessors applying for (re-) certification of Competent, Principal or Instructor level after the transition phase period ending on March 31, 2025.
