UL Demko is accredited as a Notified Body for Oman’s energy efficiency registration.
UL Solutions can perform energy efficiency testing in accredited laboratories and issue an Oman Energy Efficiency Letter of Approval and Energy Label, which are needed as prerequisites for market access to Oman.
UL Solutions was initially accredited in 2019 for air conditioners and has now expanded its capabilities to also cover washing machines, water heaters and refrigerating appliances.
The implementation of the Omani standards (OS 1651/2022, OS 1652/2022, OS 1653/2022) for these three additional product categories will begin on Dec. 8, 2023.
Oman is gradually introducing energy requirements, including testing, energy labeling and registration on the online database of the Omani authority, the Directorate General for Standards and Metrology (DGSM).
The energy efficiency registration currently applies to:
- Air conditioners, cooling capacity up to 70,000 Btu/h (since 2019)
- Washing machines with a capacity between 3 Kg and 25 Kg (newly introduced)
- Electric storage water heaters up to 2,000 L storage capacity (newly introduced)
- Refrigerators, freezers and combined for household use (newly introduced)
The conformity assessment procedure is a validation involving a Notified Body appointed by local authorities.
The manufacturer can either submit the application directly or give a mandate to an authorized representative located in Oman.
As a result of the validation, the manufacturer will receive an Oman EER Letter of Approval valid for two or three years, and the product will be registered on the Hazm Platform.

The DGSM and the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) have appointed UL Demko as a Notified Body that can perform certifications in Oman for the Low Voltage Regulation, as well as issue Gulf Type Examination Certificates and Bahrain and Oman Energy Labels.
UL Solutions can also perform safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and energy efficiency testing in accredited laboratories in different locations that can be used as a base for the Omani certification and energy labeling.
